Fast food and the word "gourmet" are usually not put together. But food blogger Danny Kim (@danny.kim on TikTok) has turned to his friends in the culinary world to achieve this goal.

On August 4th, Kim shared a TikTok video, the content is his friend chef Mikey's gourmet McDonald's creation. He turned Kim's Quarter Pounders with cheese and French fries into beef Wellington with mashed potatoes and gravy. At the time of writing, Kim's video has 15.9 million views.

Hey @gordonramsayofficial, how does my chef friend do it? ##BeefWellington ##FastFoodGourmet ##TikTokFood

The cook threw away two quarter-pound breads and roasted the patties in oil in a pan. Then he chopped up some spinach and artichokes and placed it between the two cheese linings of the pie. Then he wrapped the meat in ham, then wrapped the whole thing in a shortcrust pastry and brushed it with egg wash. Bake it in the oven until it turns golden brown and flaky.

Milk, cream, garlic and bay leaves enter the mashed potatoes. He soaked the fries in the liquid, then mixed them together and passed them through a sieve.

The chef also uses beef broth, butter, and pickles and onions from the burger to make gravy.

"I won't lie, you will definitely taste McDonald's," King told Insider Beef Wellington and Mashed Potatoes. He said Wellington’s cream, flaky appearance and chef’s jam enhance the flavor, but it’s still an obvious food for the chain. "If someone doesn't tell me it's McDonald's, I might ask why it tastes a bit like a double quarter pound.

McDonald's is not the only chain that Kim has allowed chefs to try. He shared food videos made by Popeye, KFC and Taco Bell. At the time of writing, Kim's KFC spaghetti video has received 11.9 million views.

Kim said he plans to make more of these food videos with his own DC area chef contacts, but he also hopes to see more regional chains recreated that he cannot visit every day. "I would love to see an In-N-Out Double-Double with Animal Style fries being transformed," he said. "There are too many components involved. I think the chef can recreate it in many ways."

"Seeing some very cheap things turned into beauty and good food, demonstrating the knowledge and skills of chefs I know," Jin told Insider.

Jin said that these re-creations can also be done by home cooks in their own kitchens.

"Although it is not easy to completely transform fast food into gourmet food, I think it is feasible for anyone," he said. "In the final analysis, it involves meat, vegetables, and sometimes bread. You just need to take these ingredients and recreate them in your own way."
